genetics

When I was pregnant with Ryan I had to get some dental work done. While I was there the dentist said to me in a very loving tone, "I really hope that your baby doesn't get your genes when it come to teeth (I get cavities super easy), let's hope he gets your husband's genes (Pete has had 1 cavity his entire life)."

Well we found out today that the genetic lottery was not in Ryan's favor...
8 cavities-8!!!! I promise we brush his teeth :(
Possible crown (who knew they even did that on baby teeth)
An Anesthesiologist will have to brought in

So much worse than we ever imagined...

Oh Anne...Ryan has my teeth! I have horrid teeth. And seriously, if M and I were smart we'd start a dentistry fund now for the boys because it's going to be a hot mess when they go to the dentist. Maybe I'll just preempt it and see about implants or dentures early on. It'll save on braces and endless cavities. Poor guy. I'm guessing he gets a big treat--um, toy--after all this hullabalu is done!

Oh sad news! Hope all goes well with the cavity-filling and crowning! Who knew toddlers could get crowns? What a trooper.

What rotten luck! That is my WORSE nightmare!! Good luck with that. I really need to add my kids to my dental insurance or I think I will be regretting it...

We are the same way, I have the worst teeth and Jon never gets cavities. I have heard it is really a bacteria found in some people's mouths, and that mothers can pass it to their kids when their kids are young (like before 2) by sharing spoons etc. I wasn't super careful with Addie, but I am going to be with the rest of my kids. A crown? That is crazy, do they have to do a root canal on it before the crown? Poor Ryan.

I'm so sorry Anne. Poor little Ryan. Me and Brian are the same way. He's had one cavity and I have a mouth full of fillings. . .luckily they are white now and you can't really tell. My kids seem to have gotten Brian's teeth, thank goodness.

To make Ryan feel better I just went to the dentist and lets just say I'm not doing any better than he is. Pregnancy pretty much wreaks major havoc on my teeth. I was so embarrassed.

Good luck. I can't imagine prepping McKay for that kind of dental work. Yay for anesthesia at least!

That exact same thing happened to us with Emma this spring. We were sick after the $1300 bill. Totally genetics! I hate that! :(
