CHriStMaS fEVeR!!!

Since Thanksgiving has come and gone (and it was great), i can officially start celebrating the Christmas season without getting in trouble from my little sister. I don't know why I am so excited for Christmas this year, but I just am. Maybe it is because Ryan was so little last year that we couldn't do very much, I don't know. I have been looking forward to it since the first of November and I keep telling Pete to gear up for lots of fun activities. I have been listening to Christmas music, making lists of what I want to get for my family, and if Ryan goes down for a nap I am going to get out my decorations. I think that what makes the holidays so much fun are traditions-so tell me your favorites cause I am ALWAYS looking for new ones and while you are at it you could give me some ideas about what to get my father-in-law...

Hi Anne! I also LOVE Christmas! I actually have almost all my shopping done! We have a couple fun traditions. My sisters, my Mom and me do an ornament exchange every year. So we each buy one another a new one and open them on Thanksgiving. So I get 3 new ornaments every year and I can pretty much guarantee they will be really cute! Then we have some really good recipes for breakfast on Christmas morning. I am going to post them on my blog soon... so keep your eyes out!

What a neat experience to have so much support for Emily. That is really touching.
I too am excited for Christmas. This tradition is not mine, Margret Nadauld shared it in RS, but I really like it; as a family they read the Book Of Mormon account of Christ's birth on Christmas Eve and then the Luke 2 account on Christmas Day.

I am thinking about starting a tradition of buying a super awesome, super frilly, super festive holiday sweater, and wearing it and laughing. That is why I think we should have a super fun holiday sweater party :)
Also since my family is getting so huge we pick names- but we also pick themes of what kind of things to buy like something smelly, something relaxing, something funny or something spiritual.

I like to do a Christmas newsletter to send out to all my friends and family to update them all on the years happenings. I also love going to Temple Square to see the lights and this year I want to do some family service projects. My husband and I also like to dip chocolates. We also dress up and act out the nativity with my family as we read Luke 2. Christmas is so fun!

Christmas is really the best time of year!

My favorite "commercial" tradition was that we would always write letters to Santa and place them in the fireplace. Then, magically, they would be gone later in the day and a letter would appear back from Santa. Getting a letter from Santa is REALLY exciting. I think imagination is so important!

I think I am going to start this tradition but I read about having a cookie decorating party. You invite kids over to your house to decorate gingerbread and sugar cookies- they each get 3-4 and then you have all sorts of fun decorating candies and cool icing. It's a fun day party that you can do to help get the kids excited!
Also, for your father-in-law, there's a book out called the The Dangerous Book for Boys (or something like that) and it has all this fun facts about boy things (how to make a paper airplane, how to start fire, etc). Just really fun things. Both our Dads thought the book was really fun- it took them back in time and it was fun for "grandpas". Anyhow, just an idea!

I SO have Christmas FEVER! I LOVE it! Everything about the holiday... i have to resist putting on the Christmas music until mid November. Some say it is too early... I say it isn't early enough to start celebrating! We already have ALL the decorations out and the tree decorated! SO FUN! I put up my outdoor Christmas lights on November 1st... but wasn't allowed to actually turn them on until the day after Thanksgiving. Have fun celebrating this year.... Ryan is at the perfect age to have some FUN this holiday season!

I love Christmas too. And I am feeling the same way. Something is still missing this year. Trent and I love to light the tree each year and kick off the Christmas season in our robes and sip on hot cocoa and watch The Grinch.
I know it is totally cheesy and such an old couple thing, but it is fun and it gets us in the mood.

Anne thanks so much- we are so excited for a little boy- you will have to give me all your words of wisdom on raising one. Well I love Christmas time and have so many fun traditions- On Christmas Eve we always get a present (which is usually pj's) and a Christmas book that we read along with Luke 2. Also in the past, we have done the 12 days of Christmas to someone needy or lonely and it seriously is the greatest. Totally puts you in the right spirit for Christmas. Christmas is the best!!

I love reading all the comments on this post. It gets me excited about Christmas. We don't have any super original Christmas traditions, but one that I really love is sub-for-santa. I also like making ginger bread houses, watching all the christmas movies (ELF and Christmas Vacation), reading a Christmas story together, and making and eating lots of treats.
